1:46:32 he ran 8 min faster while fixing his back

Every time Danny bent down, he thought about his back first.

He’s a mechanic. He bends down all day.

On our first call he told me, “Every time I got to bend down or every time I have to do something, I have to think about my back first before I do anything.”

He also had a half marathon six weeks out. His last one was 1:55.

So I told him the truth. The running was likely slowing down how fast he could heal. When he asked if the race could set him back, I said “My honest answer is I don’t know.”

He wanted to run it. So we built the plan around the race. A bit more toward performance until race day, a taper, then pull back and keep building after.

And we didn’t start with his back. We started with how he stood and moved, so his back wasn’t doing all the work.

A week before the race, he got off the bed with no stiffness.

His words: “I’m like, is this real right now?”

The day after the race, he sent me this.

1:46:32. Over 8 minutes faster than his last half, after missing weeks of training.

He’s not done. Getting back under a barbell squat is what we build toward next.

The guy who thought about his back before every bend told me,

“I literally gave it all I had in the tank.”

Hope you’re moving well and brewing better. ☕
