I stopped twisting for two years
I'll never forget the day I deadlifted 315 lb after my back injury.
For years I thought the safest thing I could do was avoid anything that might cause pain. So I didn't lift heavy. I didn't bend down certain ways. I didn't rotate certain ways.
Avoiding all of that cost me years of progress in my training.
I remember walking into gyms and seeing people lift weights I used to lift. It was like watching a past version of myself, and being reminded of how far behind I was.
If you keep avoiding the lift, the fear doesn't go anywhere.
So I started lighter and built from there. I remember telling myself, okay, if I lift this and I have a flare-up, that's okay. I know I can bounce back from it.
Confidence comes from doing the thing you want to get back to and collecting proof over time.
So the win for me wasn't 315. It was lifting 315 without the fear sitting in the back of my mind.
Is there a lift you've been avoiding? Book a call.
Gabe
